Building Tool Progression – Closed Beta

Basic Tools IconBuilding Tools 2 icon

UPDATE: The Monday 5.12.2014 Patch Completely Changed Building Tool Progression. When you create your character you are granted your “Add Tool”.  When you place your 1st Claim Flag, you are auto-granted ALL of your other building tools!!  It’s as simple as that.

This is the historic building tool progression that challenged Alpha and early Closed-Beta players and is now retired, but still here for your reading enjoyment 😉

Thankfully, the “Building Tool” progression has been streamlined a bit since the Landmark Alpha. The recipes for the Building Tools remain unchanged, but you do need to make (or have access to) two (2) crafting stations (Stone forge and Alchemy Station) to make the necessary tools for mining and harvesting the needed materials for the building tools, picks, axes and crafting stations needed.

Since Landmark is primarily a building game, the “Building Tool” progression will probably be your primary focus as you get started in Landmark.

Here are the Building Tools and their recipes:
The Building Tools: Addition Tool (T1), Delete Tool (T1), Heal Tool (T1), Selection Tool (T2), Paint Tool (T3), Smooth Tool (T3), and Line Tool (T4)

Addition Tool:
Addition Tool
The Addition Tool is your primary building tool. It is the only tool you have when you create your character. It allows you to place materials (that you’ve gathered, mined or harvested and have in your inventory) in various shapes (cube, sphere, wedge) and sizes (as small as 1 Voxel) on your claim. You can also place dirt anywhere in the world EXCEPT on other claims where you don’t have permission to build.

Crafted in: Basic Forge

Delete Tool:
Delete Tool
The Subtraction Tool is the first tool you will need to craft. It enables you to remove any materials you’ve placed on your claim and returns them to your resource inventory. It also allows you to remove earth from your claim, but doesn’t act as a harvesting tool by putting those materials into your resource inventory. The delete tool uses the same shapes as the Addition Tool.

Healing Tool:
Heal Tool
The Healing Tool lets you restore the ground on your claim that you have altered in any way and uses the same shapes as the Addition tool.

Selection Tool:
Selection Tool
The Selection tool is one of the most important building tools in your tool set. It lets you select rectangular shapes by the Voxel that you can then copy and paste or paint with materials from your resource inventory. Much of your initial progression will be focused on crafting this important tool.

Paint Tool:
Paint Tool
The Paint Tool lets you paint materials from your resource inventory onto your active Selection Tool area. It’s very handy for coloring large objects like walls, floors and roofs.

Smooth Tool:
Smooth Tool
The Smoothing Tool lets you turn Voxels into irregular shapes. The Smoothing Tool is definitely a “finishing” tool you will need to give your creations a more realistic appearance by rounding their edges, corners and creating uneven surfaces.

Line Tool:
Line Tool
The Line Tool lets you create off-axis shapes like stair railings, angular support beams and many intricate designs.

Your Quest begins here

(and assumes you have planted your flag to claim your plot of land to place your crafting stations where you will build your dream castle):

1) Using your Stone Pick and Stone Axe, collect enough Copper Ore, Elemental Copper, Plain Wood Logs and Stone to craft your Stone Forge crafted at a Basic or Tinkerer’s Workshop. You can harvest Plain Wood Logs from trees in the Jungle/Forest biome. You can refine your Copper Ore into Copper Ingots and your Plain Wood Logs into Coal at the Basic Forge at the Spires, and you can refine your Stone into Piles of Worked Stone at the basic Workshop.
